The Clean Water Action Group in Pennsylvania has recently discovered that despite more than one thousand environmental violations, 9 out of 10 natural gas companies operating in the Keystone State didn’t pay a single penny in fines.
I guess that’s what happens when special interests, and not those responsible for protecting our water and air, run the show.
This is nothing new. Although kudos to Clean Water Action for calling this one out.
The group’s new report found that in 2011, 43 different natural gas drilling companies were cited 1,192 times for operating activities that violated various environmental laws. 63% of those violations resulted in no enforcement action, and 93% resulted in no fines issued.
